Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Warden ("we," "us," "our") governing your installation and use of the Warden Chrome Extension (the "Extension").
By installing or using the Extension, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms in their entirety. If you do not agree, uninstall the Extension and do not use it.
These Terms apply to all versions of the Extension — MVP, V1, and all subsequent releases — distributed through the Chrome Web Store or directly as a developer build.
Eligibility
To use Warden, you must:
- —Be at least 13 years of age. Warden is not directed at children under 13.
- —If aged 13–18, review these Terms with a parent or legal guardian before use.
- —Have the legal capacity to enter a binding agreement in your jurisdiction.
- —Not be barred from receiving services under applicable law.
- —Have access to a device running the Google Chrome browser. Warden is a Chrome-only Extension and does not function in Firefox, Safari, Edge, or any other browser. No specific operating system or mobile device is required.
The Extension & What It Does
Warden is a browser-first forced-focus Chrome Extension that enforces focused work sessions by restricting tab navigation and minimising browser distractions during active sessions. It is not a device-locking or phone-locking application.
Enforcement scope — browser-level only: Warden operates within the Chrome browser. It does not lock your operating system, restrict other desktop applications, prevent you from closing Chrome, or affect any device function outside the browser. Closing Chrome, switching apps, or using another browser remains entirely within your control at all times.
- —Blocks or redirects navigation to websites on your personal blocklist
- —Suppresses in-browser notifications to reduce interruptions
- —Maintains a session countdown timer visible in the Extension popup
- —Enforces focus/rest lap cycles as configured by you
- —Displays your typed session goal as a focus anchor (V1)
- —When sessions start, how long they last, and how many laps you set
- —Your blocklist — no sites are blocked without your explicit configuration
- —Whether to use your daily emergency override
- —Whether to close Chrome, switch applications, or stop using the Extension
- —Work not completed during sessions
- —Distractions accessed through other browsers, applications, or devices
- —OS-level notifications received while Chrome is open during a session
- —Sessions ending because Chrome was closed, crashed, or updated mid-session
- —Extension functionality changes caused by Chrome browser or Chrome API policy updates
Permitted & Prohibited Use
You may use the Extension solely for personal, non-commercial focus and productivity purposes on devices and browser profiles you own or have authorization to use.
- —Reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from any part of the Extension
- —Circumvent, disable, or tamper with session enforcement mechanisms
- —Use the Extension on a device or browser profile you do not own or have authorization to use, including shared or institutional devices without explicit authorization
- —Use the Extension to circumvent web content policies, access controls, or browsing restrictions imposed by an employer, institution, or parental control system
- —Distribute exploits, bypass methods, or known vulnerabilities related to Warden's functionality
- —Use the Extension for any commercial purpose without prior written consent
- —Inject scripts into or interact with the Extension's internal APIs outside the intended user interface
- —Use the Extension in any manner that violates applicable local, national, or international law
Prohibited use constitutes a material breach of these Terms and may result in immediate account termination and reporting to Google for Chrome Web Store policy violations.
User Accounts
The MVP Extension operates without a user account — session data is stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage. V1 introduces optional account creation for cloud sync and cross-device history. When you create an account, you agree to:
- —Provide accurate, current, and complete registration information
- —Maintain the confidentiality of your login credentials — you are responsible for all activity under your account
- —Notify us immediately via X (@youssuf_salah_) if you suspect unauthorized account access
- —Not share, sell, or transfer your account to any other person
- —Not create multiple accounts to circumvent any restrictions or limitations
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, provide false information, or engage in prohibited conduct, with or without prior notice.
Intellectual Property
All content, code, design, trademarks, service marks, and trade dress in or associated with the Extension are owned by or licensed to Warden and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Extension in Chrome on your personal device(s) solely for personal, non-commercial focus and productivity purposes.
This license does not include the right to: sublicense or redistribute the Extension; copy, modify, or create derivative works; publicly display the Extension's code or assets; use Warden's name or branding commercially; or remove any proprietary notices.
Session goal text, blocklist entries, and preset names remain yours. We store them solely to deliver the features you create them for. We will never use your content for advertising, AI model training, or any purpose beyond the Extension's core functionality.
Chrome Extension Permissions
Warden requires specific Chrome browser permissions to function. By installing the Extension, you authorize us to use these permissions only as described below. We follow the principle of minimum necessary permissions — we declare only what we use.
You can revoke any permission at any time via Chrome Settings → Extensions → Warden → Details. Revoking a permission disables its associated feature but does not delete your account or locally stored session data.
Emergency Override
Warden includes an emergency override function limited to one use per 24-hour period, designed for genuine emergencies only.
- —Override usage is logged and visible in your session history
- —In V2, override usage may be visible to accountability partners you explicitly invite and authorize
- —Closing the Chrome browser during a session counts as a session interruption, not an override use — overrides apply only to in-session terminations initiated via the Extension UI
- —Overrides reset at midnight local time
Repeated override use does not constitute grounds for a refund, service dispute, or any form of compensation claim. The override is a feature, not a failure — but its cost is intentional.
Subscriptions & Payment
The MVP and V1 Extension releases are available at no charge. A freemium model (Warden Pro) is planned for V2, distributed through the Chrome Web Store. When Pro becomes available:
- —Subscription fees will be clearly stated before any purchase is confirmed
- —Billing is handled by Google Play Billing / Chrome Web Store — Warden does not store payment information
- —Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date through the Chrome Web Store
- —Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — access continues until then
- —No refunds are issued for partial billing periods, except where required by applicable law
- —Early access users with confirmed lifetime Pro status are not subject to subscription billing
For billing disputes, contact Google Play Billing support directly. For product-related subscription issues, contact us via X: @youssuf_salah_.
Disclaimer of Warranties
THE EXTENSION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING:
- —WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
- —WARRANTIES OF UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION
- —WARRANTIES THAT FOCUS ENFORCEMENT WILL PREVENT ALL DISTRACTIONS — browser-level enforcement does not restrict other applications, other browsers, or other devices
- —WARRANTIES THAT THE EXTENSION WILL FUNCTION CORRECTLY FOLLOWING Chrome browser updates, OS updates, or Chrome extension API policy changes
- —WARRANTIES REGARDING THE ACCURACY OR COMPLETENESS OF ANY CONTENT IN THE EXTENSION
Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WARDEN'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF: (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM; OR (B) $10 USD.
WE ARE NOT LIABLE — UNDER ANY LEGAL THEORY — FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES INCLUDING:
- —Lost productivity or distractions accessed outside the Chrome browser
- —Sessions ending because Chrome was closed, crashed, or updated
- —Data loss from browser extension or cloud storage
- —Harm resulting from use of — or inability to use — the emergency override
- —Consequences from Chrome API policy changes affecting Extension functionality
Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to Warden at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Grounds include but are not limited to: violations of these Terms, Chrome Web Store policy violations, legal requests, or product discontinuation.
Uninstall the Extension at any time via Chrome Settings → Extensions → Warden → Remove. If you have a V1 account, delete it from Settings within the Extension. Deletion is permanent and removes all cloud-synced data within 30 days.
Upon termination, your license ends immediately. Provisions that by their nature survive termination — including Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, Liability Limits, and Governing Law — remain in effect.
Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles. We encourage you to contact us before initiating any formal legal proceeding — most issues can be resolved quickly through direct communication via X (@youssuf_salah_).
If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, both parties agree to first attempt resolution through good-faith negotiation, followed by binding arbitration or courts of competent jurisdiction as applicable under local law.
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions continue in full force.
Chrome Web Store Compliance
The Extension is distributed through the Google Chrome Web Store and is subject to Google's Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies. By installing the Extension:
- —You acknowledge your use is also subject to Google's Terms of Service and Chrome extension policies
- —We commit to maintaining CWS compliance and will notify users of any required changes
- —The Extension has a single, clearly stated purpose: browser-based focus session enforcement. It will not expand beyond this purpose without a policy update and advance user notification
- —All permissions declared in the Extension's manifest are disclosed in our Privacy Policy and used only for the purposes stated therein — in compliance with the CWS User Data Policy
If Google's CWS policies require changes to Extension functionality or data practices, we will update these Terms and our Privacy Policy accordingly and notify users at least 14 days before changes take effect.
Modifications to These Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. For material changes we will update the "Last Updated" date and notify account holders via in-extension notification or email at least 14 days before changes take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
The most current version of these Terms is always accessible from within the Extension and on our website. We recommend reviewing them periodically.
